The Gold Coast Airport Marathon
The Gold Coast Marathon is the biggest event on Queensland’s sporting calendar, attracting an impressive average of 25,000 competitors each year and hundreds of thousands more spectators.
Now celebrating its 34th year, the marathon has come a long way since its inception as a local government fitness campaign in 1979. The 42 km race has recently been named the best in Oceania, while the half marathon has been ranked in the top 10 events of its type alongside the prestigious London and Berlin events.
The course leads participants along the region’s scenic Broadwater foreshore precinct, through the iconic Surfers Paradise and south to Burleigh Heads, taking in many of the Gold Coast’s most renowned beaches along the way. Thanks to its flat terrain, stunning coastal views and mild, non-humid winter temperatures, the race is a favourite with runners of all ages and abilities. If you’re already in training or would like to come along and cheer on a loved one, Blue Water Bay Gold Coast holiday apartments are the ideal base.
